R/V Kathryn M. 


For nearshore surveys and sampling, vessel support is provided by the R/V Kathryn M. A trailered, 24-feet-long, diesel powered vessel, able to cruise at 20 to 24 kn. Hydraulic and electric powered winches and davits allow rapid deployment and recovery of sampling equipment. Radar, color fathometer, GPS, and plotter provide station location and tracking.

Power: 120hp, 1.7L, 4 stroke, 4 cylinder, Mercury Sterndrive Diesel
Fuel: 25  gallon diesel.
Cruise Speed: 20 to 25 kts - depending on deck load.
Electrical: Two deep cycle marine batteries, alt. 600W, 50 Amp.
Electronics: Icom ic-m502 VHF marine radio, Furno GP-1650F GPS/ plotter/ sounder.
Deck Equipment: Stainless steel davit with hydraulic powered variable speed line puller and windlass, saltwater wash-down system, and dive ladder.
Auxiliary Equipment: A variety of oceanographic equipment and biological sampling devices are available for rental through MBC including a Sea-Bird water quality profiler, Van Veen grabs, Phleger corers, otter trawl nets, beam trawl nets, bongo nets, etc.
